Towards innovation and sustainability
We are constantly searching for environmentally sustainable materials, such as Shell Diala S4 ZX-I, oil, a high-performance transformer oil designed to significantly reduce environmental impact and improve operational efficiency.
CHARACTERISTICS
Compared to traditional oils, Shell Diala S4 ZX-I ensures a more efficient and durable operation of the transformer over time. The superior reliability of the transformer is provided by the oil’s resistance to deterioration and practically zero sulfur content, which eliminates the risk of copper corrosion. Shell Diala S4 ZX-I also contributes to improving transformer performance due to its excellent thermal properties under overload conditions and during low-temperature startups.
SPECIFICATIONS & APPROVALS
Thanks to its high oxidation stability and low sulfur content, Shell Diala S4 ZX-I exceeds the IEC60296: Edition 4 (2012) specification and meets the requirements of the leading manufacturers and builders in the industry. Its oxidation stability is up to five times higher than the requirements of the highest industry standard.
In addition to oil Shell Diala S4 ZX-I, oil, we also boast the use of Paryol Electra 7426, an oil that is not only
high-performing but also environmentally friendly and biodegradable.
Paryol ELECTRA 7426 is an advanced dielectric insulating oil designed and developed with the aim of
minimizing environmental impact and reducing the risk of fire, while also delivering excellent performance.
SAFETY
With flash and fire points exceeding 300°C, making it a less flammable fluid compared to alternatives. It does
not produce PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) and does not contain corrosive sulfur in case of
electrical arc, thus enhancing environmental safety and operator health. Its greater solubility in water facilitates
cleaning in case of spillage.
PERFORMANCE
Dielectric Dissipation Factor (DDF) similar to that of mineral oils, with a value that increases during service to
retain water and maintain device efficiency. High breakdown voltage, which protects insulating paper and
extends its life. Superior oxidation stability compared to other vegetable oils, as demonstrated by prolonged
oxidation tests
Table 2 shows that Paryol ELECTRA 7426® has Flash and Fire points above 300°C, higher than all the other dielectric fluids. As such it is classified as K-type oil according to the IEC61039 standard.
The combination of both Fire point and Thermal class shows that Paryol ELECTRA 7426® is the product with the highest safety margin at operating temperatures.
In order to reduce fire risk, it is advisable to replace more flammable insulating fluids (typically mineral-based) with Paryol ELECTRA 7426®.
This is even more desirable when the transformer is placed indoor
(underground places, mines, tunnels, ships, submarines).

A life cycle assessment of Paryol ELECTRA 7426® has been conducted, revealing that replacing mineral-based dielectric oils results in a significant reduction in emitted carbon dioxide, approximately 5 kg of CO2 per kg of product.
Table 3 shows that K-type oils like Paryol ELECTRA 7426® require smaller safety areas than O-type fluids (like mineral oil) for any filled volume.
It’s worth remembering that a 50% lenght reduction corresponds to a 75% area shrink. This is a great advantage in terms of civil works for new installations.

Sustainability And Innovation: Our Commitment To Reducing CO₂ Emissions
ELETRAFOhas always been committed to the design and production of high-quality electrical transformers and has long recognized the importance of a sustainable approach to its activities. Aware of the
environmental challenges our planet is facing, we have embarked on an ambitious journey aimed at minimizing our ecological impact and contributing to the building of a more sustainable future.
For us, environmental protection is not a simple declaration of intent, but a concrete commitment that translates into daily actions.
Here are some of the initiatives we have put in place:

Clean energy at the service of production
In 2012, we installed a 42 kWp photovoltaic system on the roof of our facility. This system, covering an area of 400 m², generates an annual amount of electricity equal to 35.52 MWh, enough to meet more than 100% of our energy needs. However, since we did not install storage batteries, we source electricity from the grid, purchasing 19.52 MWh. It is important to highlight that the excess energy is fed back into the grid. Thanks to this investment, we have drastically reduced our CO₂ emissions, contributing to mitigating the effects of climate change.

360° energy efficiency
In addition to solar energy, we have implemented numerous measures to optimize the energy efficiency of our production processes. We have replaced the entire office lighting with state-of-the-art LED lamps, which consume much less energy and have a significantly longer lifespan. As a future goal, we aim to replace all the lamps in the entire production area, currently using metal halide lamps, with more energy-efficient and longer-lasting LED lamps by 2026.

Respect for natural resources
Water conservation is another key pillar of our sustainability strategy. We have optimized our production processes to eliminate the consumption of this valuable resource. Water is only used for sanitary purposes and never enters the production process.

Sustainable waste management
We firmly believe in the 3Rs principle: reduce, reuse and recycle. We have implemented a separate waste collection system that allows us to separate and enhance recyclable materials, minimizing the amount of waste destined for disposal. We also collaborate with companies specialized in the recovery and recycling of the most complex materials, such as used insulating oils

Sustainable mobility
We are aware that the transportation sector is one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions. For this reason, we have installed an electric vehicle charging station in the facility's courtyard, with a power capacity of 22 kW. Additionally, we are promoting the use of shared transportation among our employees.
Carbon balance
Our company has taken an important step towards sustainability by starting to use the carbon footprint from 2023. This tool allows us to closely monitor our CO₂ emissions, strictly following the guidelines of major global organizations and initiatives, such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and ISO 14064. We are deeply committed to reducing our emissions and promoting more sustainable environmental practices. With the carbon footprint, we not only keep track of our environmental impact but also commit to continuous
improvement, adopting strategies to reduce emissions and contributing to a more sustainable future for all.
Our carbon balance is divided into three key categories to provide a comprehensive view of our emissions:
